Jared Tawney, LMFT • Whitworth University Lecturer • WA & ID
Couples therapy, family therapy, and individual counseling — delivered through secure telehealth across Washington and Idaho.
About
I’m Jared Tawney, a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) serving clients across Washington and Idaho. I earned my Master’s degree from Whitworth University’s Marriage and Family Therapy program and am trained in both Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Gottman Method couples therapy.
I work with clients who feel disconnected and stuck in negative cycles — those seeking practical ways to improve dialogue, resolve conflicts, and rebuild trust. I also work with individuals focusing on behavior change and emotion regulation, and with families designing therapy activities that build security in relationships.
Beyond clinical practice, I serve as a Lecturer in the Psychology Department at Whitworth University and am available for speaking engagements on relationships, mental health, and resilience.
The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way.

Services
I help couples who feel disconnected and stuck in negative cycles find practical ways to improve dialogue, resolve conflicts, and rebuild trust. Through corrective experiences and intentional practice, couples learn strategies to foster understanding and rebuild emotional connection.
EFT & Gottman Method
In family therapy, I design therapy activities inspired by the family itself — a thoughtful approach to exercises that build security in family relationships. When one part of a family system struggles, everyone feels it. Therapy helps identify the stuck patterns and create a healthier dynamic.
Emotionally Focused Therapy
Individual sessions focus on behavior change and emotion regulation. Whether you’re working through anxiety, stress, life transitions, trauma, or simply want to align your actions with your values — I help build psychological flexibility and move toward a more intentional life.
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy
Approach
Two proven therapeutic frameworks adapted to your specific situation.
Emotionally Focused Therapy & Gottman Method
EFT identifies the negative cycles that keep partners stuck — attack and withdraw, unmet needs, missed signals — and replaces them with secure, responsive connection. Combined with Gottman Method, I help couples connect through corrective experiences, not communication tricks, but understanding what drives the conflict so you can reach each other.
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy
ACT develops your ability to hold difficult thoughts and feelings without being controlled by them — and to take committed action toward what you value most. Rather than fighting your internal experience, ACT builds a life that matters to you. Practical, present-focused, and built for people who want to function better.

It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare; it is because we do not dare that they are difficult.

Clinical Supervision
I provide clinical supervision for Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associates (LMFTAs) working toward full licensure in Washington State. My supervision draws on EFT, Gottman, and ACT frameworks with an emphasis on clinical skill development, professional identity formation, and licensure exam preparation.
Supervision grounded in evidence-based couples therapy models, helping associates develop confidence in emotionally focused and Gottman-informed work.
Structured supervision designed to meet Washington State licensure requirements, including direct client hours, documentation, and professional development milestones.
Pre-licensure exam preparation support, guided study, and accountability built into the supervision package to keep you on track toward full licensure.
All supervision conducted via secure video, providing flexible scheduling for associates building their practices across Washington and Idaho.
Insights
Couples
The most common pattern I see in couples therapy isn’t about the topic of the fight — it’s about the dance beneath it.
Stoic Wisdom
Ancient philosophy meets modern psychotherapy. How ACT and Stoicism share a surprising common ground on managing difficult emotions.
Men’s Issues
The way we attach to God often mirrors the way we attach to people. Understanding this connection can transform both your relationships and your spiritual life.
